South Beach Brewing Company Serves South East Florida While Preparing Tap Room on South Beach, Miami

South Beach Brewing Sunset IPA

We’re featuring one of Florida’s newer breweries, South Beach Brewing Company, and their Blood Orange Sunset IPA, for Florida Beer Friday. This is one of two beers made by South Beach Brewing Co. using 100% Florida orange juice, the other is their Strawberry Orange Mimosa blonde ale.

This is an IPA complemented with orange and citrus more so than a fruit beer. It is refreshing and easy-drinking but brings the hops with a bitter middle and end, which is how an IPA should be. Made with four hop varieties (Citra, Mosaic, Dr. Rudi and Ekuanot), Pale, Munich and Dextrine malts as well as rolled oats, this beer is full-bodied and complex. This one weighs in at 6.7% ABV, so while it would be good on the beach maybe save it for the sunset. It is a Sunset IPA after all.

South Beach Brewing Company will open their tap room, on South Beach, in the late Fall. In the meantime they have four, soon to be five, beers you can pick up in bottles or cans (for the beach or pool) with distribution across the south Atlantic coast of Florida, from Jupiter down to Key West. In addition to their Blood Orange Sunset IPA you can find their Strawberry Orange Mimosa blonde ale, Sunshine State Pale Ale and South Peach Shandy. They’ll soon be launching a South Beach Light.

Something unique about South Beach Brewing Company is that they have a proprietary electrolyte blend which is infused in each of their beers. I’m no scientist, but it seems like a preemptive strike against hangovers. There is some pedigree behind these beers as well, as the founder of Shipyard and Sea Dog Brewing is one South Beach Brewing Company’s partners while head brewer of Sea Dog Brewing Clearwater helped develop the recipes of their flagship beers. Also worth noting is that their can art and logos were designed by well-known Miami artist LEBO.
